The Arneis grape variety takes its name from "Renexij" the ancient name for Renesio di Canale, a small town in the province of Cuneo. It is interesting that in Piedmontese the word "arneis" refers to rogue individuals who make anyone nervous, and the Arneis vine has the characteristic of being very laborious to grow because of its poor and irregular yield. Other difficulties stem from the fact that it is a vine that is very susceptible to pests and susceptible to disease, due in part to the fact that Arneis is grown mainly in the Roero, on the left bank of the Tanaro River, an area affected by insect problems. Arneis is characterized by a medium-sized cluster with a conical-pyramidal shape with medium-sized, very compact berries with a flattened round shape.
