Albarossa is an emerging grape variety created in a laboratory in 1938. The idea was to create a wine that had the quality of Nebbiolo and the rusticity of Barbera by crossing the two varieties, but in recent times it was discovered that the grape used was not Nebbiolo, but Chatus, also known as Nebbiolo di Dronero.
