Forastera is one of two really important grape varieties on Ischia. The name means stranger and refers to the fact that this vine was introduced to the island in the mid-1800s, but is not documented until 1867.

Frassitelli Biancolella is grown on the "parracine," the dry stone walls built with tuff stones. The soil on Ischia is mainly and has a steep slope, so to facilitate transport and processing, a rack and pinion train was installed in the vineyard.
