Il Poggio is named after the vineyard from which the grapes come, and it is the vineyard from which the winery began production in 1962. Il Poggio also was the first Chianti Classico to bear the single vineyard mention on the label. It is made from Sangiovese grapes to which a small percentage of Canaiolo and Colorino is added. After vinification, the wine, which has a high aging capacity, is aged in the castle's historic cellars.
