The Nuragus vine is thought to take its name from the Phoenician word "nur" meaning fire; other theory says it derives from "nuraghi," Neolithic dwellings made of stone. The vine differs from all other varieties found in Sardinia, with the sole exception of Semidano. Over the centuries it has never been exploited because of its high yield, which did not allow the production of quality wine, and only in recent years has cultivation been increasing. It is a very drought-resistant grape, characterized by a stubby, medium-large, cylindrical and very compact cluster with round berries of amber-gold color.
