Ottavianello is a native vine of Puglia and probably owes its name to Ottaviano, a town in the province of Naples from which the Marquis of Bugnano introduced it to the Brindisi area in the late 1800s. It is a rather delicate vine but grows in warm areas, withstands drought well, is very fertile and productive but is very susceptible to wood diseases.
