The Ghemme Docg appellation is located in upper Piedmont, bordering Valsesia near Monte Rosa, to the north bordering Monte Fenera and to the northwest bordering Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta. The soil is composed of clays, rocks, kaolins and tuffs and is rich in minerals that add flavor to the grapes. This area has been cultivated for millennia, and already in the time of Pliny the Elder viticulture was very important, and during the last century it has been increased with a greater spread of Ghemme wines.
