Speziale wine takes its name from the spicy aromas that characterize it. The grapes are grown in Verduno in the estate's cru. Vineyards about 20 years old stand on calcareous loamy soils that lie at altitudes between 250 and 400 meters. Pelaverga di Verduno is also called Pelaverga Piccolo and grows almost exclusively near the village of Verduno, according to legend brought here by a monk in the 17th century who picked a plant in the Saluzzo area. The name comes from the union of the words "pela" and "verga," and is thought to refer to an ancient vine training technique. Pelaverga di Verduno is a nationally known grape variety and is unrelated to Pelaverga Grosso, which is purely used for the production of locally important wines and is characterized by a larger cluster and berries.
