Bricco del Bosco is the wine that has restored value to Grignolino, an undervalued and misinterpreted grape variety, thanks to producer Accornero's ideas of creating complex wines with this varietal. Grignolino is a grape variety native to the hills of Monferrato, between Asti and Canale, where the best vineyards are still found. In the 13th century Grignolino grew abundantly and was highly prized, especially for the production of light red wines that became widespread in the 1500s, and was very popular among the nobles of Piedmont. The name is thought to come from the word "grignolè," which in Piedmontese dialect means "gnashing of teeth" because of the high acidity and tannin present in the berries. Another hypothesis is that Grignolino refers to "seeds," because of the greater number of seeds present in the berries. It is a variety that grows best in well-exposed, sunny and ventilated areas to avoid the risk of mold. The pyramidal clusters are medium-sized, long and compact with medium-small berries with thin blue-red skin. It is not very resistant to common vine diseases but adapts very well to different types of soils, expressing different aromas depending on soil and climate.
