According to historical documents, Ormeasco di Pornassio is the offspring of Dolcetto, imported from Pavia to Ormea by the Benedictines. It is grown in western Liguria mainly inland in the Arroscia valley on terraced slopes. The soils are rich in marine sediments, partially calcareous and marly, are east-facing, and the vines are found on average between 400 and 500 meters above sea level.
