Frascati Superiore is grown in the central part of Lazio where the Albani hills rise. They were formed by ancient volcanoes, and eruptions over the millennia deposited layers of fertile material, forming lake basins and the hills on which the vineyards currently stand. The vine was cultivated since the time of the ancient Romans, thanks to the temperate climate and the nature of the soil, Marcus Pontius Cato known as the Censor was one of the first to set the rules for the cultivation of Frascati Superiore.
