Terre Alte was first produced in 1981 and is considered one of Italy's most prestigious white wines, which has also won several international awards. The Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon grapes that make it up are grown in Rosazzo in the historic Terre Alte vineyards.

Picolit is among the oldest indigenous grape varieties in Italy, first documented in the 12th century and in 1682 was one of the wines served at the wedding banquet of the doge of Venice. The name Picolit derives from the very sparse clusters with very few berries; this characteristic is due to a genetic defect that causes the flowers not to develop due to the partial sterility of the male pollen, probably due to the domestication of the vine. According to another theory, the name comes from "pecol," meaning "hilltop," as Picolit grows best in sunny areas in a slightly warm microclimate. It is characterized by small, cylindrical conical clusters with very small, slightly oval berries and a pale, translucent yellow color. It grows almost exclusively near Udine and Gorizia, is very susceptible to downy and powdery mildew, and has great vigor but develops mainly buds rather than clusters. It was in the late 17th century that Picolit became known throughout Europe, thanks to a producer who began selling it in handmade Murano glass bottles.
