The Lambrusco Grasparossa grape variety grows mainly in the Castelvetro area, the town where this variety, first described in 1867, was born. It is considered the highest quality variety of Lambrusco due to its ability to ripen even at low temperatures, and it is the only variety of Lambrusco that grows well on hilly terrain.
